Why Black Library?

The reason i have opted to focus on BL (Black Library) is because of the universe that they get to play in, and thats the worlds and realms of Warhammer and Warhammer 40k created and owned by Games Workshop. Since Troll Slayer by William King was first published as a full book (Its actually a colectin of shorts first published in Inferno Magazine) I have been hooked into the world of Warhammer. The first 40k book that I read for it took abit longer for me to go all Sci Fi was Eisenhorn by Dan Abnett and even still today it is one of the best 40k books published by BL, and since these two books I have been a fan.

You see when you read a book the first thing you have to believe in is the world that the author is trying to create around which the story resides in. The great thing about reading a BL book is that world is always been built upon either through Games Workshop products or the release of various back ground materials and other published works. Because of this the author already has some of the work done for him (in small respect) and thus when a fan of Warhammer or 40k picks up that book, they already have a preconcieved idea of where in the universe or realm they are about to embark upon.

The reason I say in some (small respect) the work is done for the authors in terms of world building is that BL and Games Workshop are an ever expanding company that is always releasing more and more new material and thus they are attracting more and more new customers and fans, so therefore each book also has to cater for the fact that the person picking up this book is completely new to the IP and thus an introdcution is always required an introduction that is always delivered and consistant.

What pulls me back each and eveytime is that each book feels like im always getting MORE Warhammer or MORE 40k and now MORE Horus Heresy and thus everytime I feel I am being spoilt because here is a series of books though written by different authors that I get to go back to time and time again into the lives and stories of the many characters that get to inhabit the worlds of Warhammer, 40k and the Horus Heresy.

Please tell me that is not appealing? its like returning to the world of Harry Potter over and over again except this time we get to see the story revolve around another class mate or a teacher.

Cheers

Introduction

Hello, this is the first time I've ever done a blog, thought i would give it a whirl and see where the leaves fall.

Firstly the main reason I'm doing this blog is so that i have somewhere to post my reviews of books, Black Library books to be precise, for there is not enough places to find reviews from my favourite publishing company, so instead of searching the Internet with a fine toothed comb to try and find a review, I have opted to instead post my own reviews and thoughts on what i thought of the next book to come out from Black Library, whether that's Warhammer, Time of Legends, Warhammer 40k or the now worldly popular Horus Heresy. Hopefully by doing this I will be able to provide a guide to those wanting to either get into a series of books published by Black Library or are trying to decide which book to get between either book A or book B.

Also if I have the time i will also post reviews of new films to come out in cinemas as well as films that have been out a while on Blu Ray and DVD. It should also be mentioned that I'm an avid gamer of a sort and thus I will post reviews for games as well, if they impress me enough (I'm very, very fussy when it comes to games). I'm not the fastest reader in the world though I'm constantly been told that i devour books pretty fast (usually because that's all I'm doing) I will be aiming to post a book review at least once a week depending on work load etc, but i will also be trying to keep updating the blog with as much reviews as i can manage.

I would be very grateful for any feed back on my reviews, and due to this been the first time I'm doing this endeavour the reviews may change in layout based on not just feedback, but also on how comfortable they are to write. There will be reviews for not just new books recently released but also older books that have been out a while.

However before i start putting up reviews i will post a blog later on describing why i read so much Black Library books as well as the reasoning behind my scoring system.

Thanks
